Indoor tanning, using sunbeds, is a sensible way to regulate how much time you spend exposed to UV rays, minimising the risk of sunburn whilst maximising the enjoyment and benefits of having a suntan.
The iSunn Tanning Salon team in Portishead have put together some top tips to help you prepare for your Sunbed tanning session. If you have any additional questions, drop the iSunn Tanning Salon team a message.
Know Your Skin Type
It is important to know your skin type before your first sunbed session. Your skin type determines the amount of natural protection you have against ultraviolet light, how long you can use the sunbeds for during each session, and how many sessions it will take you to establish a base tan.
We will run through a skin type assessment with you when you visit iSunn.
Stick to a suitable session length
Staying on the sunbeds for longer won’t necessarily lead to a better or longer-lasting tan. Our salon team will recommend a session length, and a tanning regime, based on your skin type, allowing you to tan safely.
Know how often to use the Sunbeds
Most people will develop a base tan in 3-5 sessions which can then be maintained with regular sunbed use. We recommend visiting 2-3 times a week until you have developed the tan you desire.
We recommend leaving 48 hours between tanning sessions. This allows your skin to rest and regenerate between sessions.
Taking care of your skin will allow your tan to develop, leaving you with a longer-lasting glow.
If your goal is to maintain the tan you already have (maybe you’ve just returned from a holiday), then one or two sessions a week should be enough.
Always Wear Eye Protection
Never use a sunbed without wearing eye protection. Closing your eyes isn’t enough because UV rays can penetrate your eyes through your eyelids.
You must wear eye protection designed specifically for use on sunbeds. These have the proper UV protection to safeguard your eyes.
Eye protection goggles and Wink-Ease (disposable eye protection) are available from our salon.
Know What to Wear
If you are going to wear underwear, think about potential tan lines and choose your underwear accordingly.
If you choose to tan naked, it is a good idea to protect any sensitive areas which are not usually exposed to the sun. You can, if you wish, gradually expose these areas across your first few visits.
Use a tanning enhancer
Using a tan accelerator will maximise the results of your tanning session by giving a deeper tan whilst also nourishing your skin. iSunn Tanning Salon stocks accelerators and other products to help you achieve the best results!
